It has been some years since we last reviewed our event code of conduct and based on feedback from our crew and community we’ve decide it’s time to take a look at it again and involve everyone in that process.

At the time, the code was meant to be presented in an easily digestible way but ultimately was all common sense points without needing to list everything that can and can’t be said and done during our events and when interacting within the EPIC.LAN community online.

We have an ongoing dilemma with our events where we want people to enjoy themselves and for there to be a ‘LAN atmosphere’ which is not too sterile and boring, but at the same time there are lines of what is acceptable within our events and society in general. Where shouting and banter starts to become abusive, offensive or insulting to others then we do have to draw a line and take action, regardless of the intent.  

Current Code of Conduct

Please help us to keep a friendly, safe and welcome atmosphere at our events.

By entering EPIC.LAN you agree to:
•    Be respectful to other people, you’re spending the whole event with them. 
•    Don’t be abusive to venue or event crew, they’re here to put on a great event for you. 
•    Buy your drinks from the bar (if you’re old enough) and know your limits. If you do forget your limits, clean your own mess up, that’s not our job. 
•    Tidy up after yourselves, we’re here to run games, not clean up after you. 
•    Don’t mess with things that don’t belong to you without permission. 
•    Don’t go in to staff areas or private areas of the venue. 
•    Get good, don’t cheat. 

If you do encounter any issues with any of these points, please speak to a member of the crew straight away. 

Over the coming weeks we are inviting your feedback on how this should be developed for the next event both in terms of the standards, but also what happens as a result of people breaking that code of conduct. Importantly we also want to make sure that there are clear mechanisms in place to report those breaches that can be acted upon. 

While we do take action at events where possible and we’re notified, we also receive a lot of post-event anonymous comments through our surveys and anecdotal feedback that still highlights we have more work to do, so part of the new process will also ensure that those reporting mechanisms are clear and that people feel it is worth reporting to us knowing that appropriate action will be taken. We need everyone to help play their part if we want to keep EPIC.LAN as a safe and comfortable community for all.
